SCHOOL RADIO 87.7FM - ON AIR TO SOUTH HERTS IN 7 DAYS

Silver FM, the pioneering school summer radio station run by the pupils and friends of Bushey Hall School, London Road, Bushey (0181 950 9502) will be going live on air with a Celebrity Launch at the studios at 1pm, Wednesday 24th June.

The kids radio station which this year celebrates its third birthday will broadcast for four weeks until 19th July on 87.7FM to the community of South Hertfordshire raising money for the Children's Department at Watford General Hospital - hence the station logo "Kids Raising Money for Kids".

The aim of the project which has been running every summer since 1996, is to provide the school children with a valuable experience into the world of media, covering jobs from presenting, through to engineering and managing accounts. At the same time the station raises money for its chosen cause through advertising, sponsorship and fund-raising.

The team of presenters spear-headed by the pupils will bring 25 years of the greatest music hits to listeners, along with local headlines from the schools own news gathering team, outside broadcasts from locations around the area, exclusive Silver FM showbiz interviews with bands such as Boyzone, full coverage of the Bushey Festival and special events such as a mammoth on-air charity auction, a line-dancing spectacular including the world renowned "Silver Shuffle" and a massive live on air schools Pool Party at Watford Springs.

Silver FM is also pleased to announce a sponsorship deal from Great Thorpe Park that will see the brand new £100,000 Great Thorpe Park Outside Broadcast Unit on the streets of Watford beaming live shows back to the Silver studios. A partnership with The Watford Café (St Albans Rd, Watford) sees the café changing to The Silver Café for the duration - silver walls, menus, cutlery (and even food!)

The heart of the studio uses a top-of-the-range 22-channel digital audio mixer donated by Sky TV, and along with computer-controlled jingles and music, satellite news feeds, digital sound computer logging and all the usual CD's, turntables, microphones and telephones put Silver amongst the top of charity radio station's as far as equipment is concerned.

Weekday shows include The Breakfast Show presented by regular Silver FM presenter and current school Head Boy JON MOONIE, mornings with Lindsay Brightwell, lunchtimes with Ben Sandground, afternoons with Karen Stray and the Drivetime Show with Michael Dean.

Andy Hubble, Press Officer for Silver FM said, "Once again Bushey Hall School is proud to lead the way in community fund-raising broadcasting. Silver FM this summer will be bigger and more spectacular than ever before. Our presenters and technical teams have been hard at work training and can't wait to get on the air to Bushey and beyond."

He added, "We're grateful to all our friends in the local companies and organisations who have helped build the station and our high-tech studio, and we hope that the next four weeks will see a record amount of money raised for our superb cause, the children being treated at Watford General Hospital."

The Silver FM web site has dozens of pages of information and photographs from the radio station, along with games and email addresses. The web site can be accessed at:

As well as broadcasting to listener's homes and car stereos on 87.7 FM, a deal struck with Cable and Wireless will mean Cable TV subscribers can hear the station on Channel 34, The Community Channel.

TV stations and newspapers wishing to attend the launch are recommended to arrive at the school by 12.45pm on the 24th June.
